The Myasthenia Gravis Association (MGA) is a nonprofit United Way agency. We offer a variety of services for MG patients:
We work with several neurologists throughout the Kansas City area who specialize in the treatment of myasthenia gravis. Together, we have established MG clinics at each of their offices several times per month for diagnosis, testing and ongoing treatment of this disease. Our staff and volunteers are present at each clinic to offer education, information and support.
We provide individualized education and advocacy. Our trained staff and volunteers counsel newly diagnosed individuals and their families to help them adjust to living with MG by providing information about the disease and the services offered through the MGA. This includes one-on-one consultation, education, social service referrals and visits to patients in their hospital rooms. We also provide New Member Packets to all who are new to the MGA which include information on MG, its treatment, and living with the disease, as well as information on the MGA and related area services.
We refer patients to neurologists who specialize in MG for treatment.
We sponsor patient support group meetings which provide MG patients and their caregivers with a resource to better understand and cope with the disease. Each meeting features a special presentation and is an opportunity for informal sharing of information among attendees.
We also publish a quarterly newsletter and other informational materials such as brochures, articles of advice, and tip and fact sheets.
